latest trip

My latest trip was to Singapore, where we had a stand at the FHA Singapore trade fair.

What was the most enjoyable or memorable moment of this trip?

The most memorable part of this trip was, of course, Singapore itself. It’s a beautiful part of Asia, where the city meets the jungle. Being able to explore the city and discover great places to eat and drink after each day at the trade fair made the experience even more special.
It was also great to see so many different cultures coming together at the fair. Although the event mainly focused on trade to and from Asia, it attracted visitors from all over the world.

If you were to recommend this destination to a new colleague, what would you suggest they see, do or eat while they’re there?

If you’re visiting Singapore, Marina Bay is a must. You can explore Gardens by the Bay and then enjoy a meal at the Marina Bay Sands hotel (the rooftop is fantastic). There’s also Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam — neighbourhoods that each showcase a different culture.

What was one of the biggest cultural differences compared to the Netherlands?

The biggest difference compared to the Netherlands is how clean everything is. Smoking on the street is only allowed in designated areas. Littering is prohibited, and nobody does it.
Everyone is also very friendly and polite, which isn’t always a given in the Netherlands.

What did you learn or take away from this business trip?

During the trade fair, I made many new business connections, both with Asian customers and suppliers and with those from other parts of the world.
Trade fairs also teach you a lot about the business you’re in. Together with your colleagues, you meet both customers and suppliers. Talking to both sides helps you gain a better understanding of specific product categories, market developments and trends.
