Our roots
Kühne + Heitz is an established name in the international food trading industry. We have been in this industry for almost 50 years now: our roots go back to 1974. In those years we have built a great international company with purchase and sales channels all over the world.
Back in time
Our story starts back in 1974 in Rotterdam, where the founders of Kühne + Heitz started a trading organization in frozen chicken and turkey. Around mid-1987, Kühne + Heitz goes public.
It is 2006 when Berend Veldhoen, Teus Meerding and Jan van den Broek decide to take over the company through a management buy-out. Although the Rotterdam no-nonsense mentality remains, Kühne + Heitz settles just below the river, in Dordrecht.
The three are still involved and active within the organization, but we are now led by Nico Visser and Jaap Koelewijn. They are also both passionate and determined entrepreneurs with a heart for the food trading industry.
Our belief: Stability & Continuity
Although we at Kühne + Heitz adhere to the principle of “seize the day”, we are always concerned with tomorrow as well. Or should we say tomorrow’s deal? We work with a broad international network and a wide variety in products and markets to keep our business operations stable and healthy. In other words, we put all our eggs in different baskets. We seek continuity in relationships with customers too. We prefer long-term partnerships over the ‘one day fly’ deals.
